Today, Yangarella Radio focuses on the softer side of Sears (if you know, you know) by examining the impetus and effects of “toughen up” culture and how it influences the ways in which we interact with our peers and the world around us. Does society’s preference for not being in our feelings subconsciously limit how we define leadership, success, strength and even adulting? This episode attempts to understand the collective aversion, and arguably fear, of our most sensitive souls and the push to change them in the hope of creating a more “stalwart” populous.

In today’s episode, Yangarella Radio explores and examines why stilettos at brunch often enrage even the most level-headed people. Though many of our structural models relating to outward appearance are mere societal constructs, we sometimes uphold them as if they were Murphy’s Law and punish those who dare to rebuff Casual Friday. This episode takes a deep dive into a weird duality: the simultaneous obsession and hatred of the “glamorous, oh the flossy flossy” amongst us. “Ally” has become one of the biggest buzzwords of the last few years, but are people jumping from zero to sixty in their quest to self-designate themselves as such without actively analyzing or even admitting the biases that live within themselves and the microaggressions that they continue to perpetuate? In this episode, we analyze performative allyship, the role of social media in promoting well-manicured but disingenuous facades, and the nonsensical belief that you can’t be prejudiced if you say, for example, recycle, or are “socially liberal”, or have a friend from a minority group, or voted for former President Barack Obama. Let's just say that several of our own firsthand experiences have proven that this logic is simply...and completely flawed. Further, we share our opinions on the work that needs to happen first before thrusting yourself into a sphere that you cannot sustain.

We’re kicking off Season Two of Yangarella Radio with a series of narratives from Nigerians, both at home and abroad, regarding the END SARS protests that occurred in Nigeria (and across the globe) in late 2020.
